Gone To Meet Their Maker

Now my very favorite Monty Python sketch (aside from How Not to Be Seen) is Mrs. Premise and Mrs. Conclusion with Graham Chapman and John Cleese playing head-scarfed housewives in the suburban London laundromat impulsively deciding to call up Jean-Paul Sartre (found the Paris phone book while clothing on spin…”we met in Ibiza”…giggling as I write.) They row across the Channel where Michael Palin plays Simone de Beauvoir (with headscarf) and a goat is eating Sartre’s manuscripts (giggling as I write).

But a crowd favorite is The Dead Parrot.

For my birthday in 2020 I bought two beautiful jade plants at the walkable Austin garden store The Great Outdoors. They were thriving until I think I made a mistake, setting them on the balcony on a hot day last summer. They’ve been ailing and finally last week it became time to let them go.

So from The Dead Parrot, John Cleese…”hello polly wake up,” “deceased, demised, passed on, no more, ceased to be, expired, stiff, bereft of life, pushing up the daisies, late ex-parrot” (ex-jade plants). And Palin “pining for the fjords” (giggling as I write).

No fjords involved but still goodbye beautiful jade plants.
