Masks (And Now This Week Idiotic Canadian Now French Now BelgianTruckers, And German Anti-Vaxxers )

I read this in The Guardian.

Turns out a group of researchers at Cardiff University found that people wearing masks are judged more attractive than people who do not wear masks. The researchers attribute their results to two possibilities. One. Evolutionary. In the pandemic times, people who mask seem less likely to have got, or to get, the disease. That makes those people more appealing to potential equally intelligent and healthy partners. Two. Facial research. The mask directs attention to a person’s eyes which increases attractiveness.

My building, and my neighborhood, both, are just full of cordial, friendly people (and their adorable dogs). But most don’t mask and as I write this Austin is Stage Five.

They seem to understand, and we all smile (eyes have to do the job…I’m a masker…but it works) when I give a wave, point to my mask…they wave back mostly…and then I wait for the elevator to clear out.

But I’d rather they just mask up. It’s not about one’s vanity (you don’t look that great without the mask anyway), not about the (yes) inconvenience, not about “freedom” (spare me that one…over centuries and continents people have had far more significant issues of personal, social, and political rights). “Mask freedom?” What the what? Shaking my head. To not mask seems equivalent to a stomping toddler.

And now (it’s February 11 update ) these fools blocking roads in Canada and passage to the United States, because they won’t what-the-what won’t get vaccinated. Now Paris and Brussels. Anti-vaxxers in Germany. More stomping toddlers, making everyday life a little more complicated, and dangerous, for others. I sure hope these idiots are not getting paid during their performance show.

The point is to not cause harm to others.

What’s so hard to get about that? I’m fed up with these selfish idiots. I could not travel to see my father before his death, because these bratty and honestly uneducated clogged the airport and planes and shamed themselves with their bizarre stubbornness. And in flight really bad behavior. But I could not take risk for myself or for my family because the fools, yes fools, made it risky for me to travel to see my father before he died.

Are we chimps or bonobos?

Probably more chimps.

Meanwhile the rest of world needs more vaccine.
