Just About The Best, Again

Here in Austin it’s been so hot (not as hot yet as has been over my years here, but August is coming).

But, still, one of my favorite things about Austin are the dramatic storms.

When my son wasn’t even walking yet, during morning rains we would take some time on the (covered) porch swing before school and work. Later on, he was older. We would go for a run (before a storm) and then coming home, we opened the door to the back yard patio, and watched from the dry inside, probably eating popcorn or hot dogs, when the weather eventually got wet.

Early on when I returned to Austin a couple of years ago, an awesome spring hailstorm happened, and when the rain got nuts, two cats living outdoors sheltered together in cardboard on the small back porch.

This year, a kind of hot, kind of dry, summer. Normal Texas. (Way worse farther West.)

Yet we have these occasional storms at night…last one was one. How very lucky to just watch through the window by the desk, that lightning, awed, safe at laptop. Thunder and rain later, luckily comfy, and calming, from my bedroom window.

Photo…the amazing Texas sky as storm came in last night.

This morning, finches all over the balcony, in the sunniness and roaming the trees outside my windows, chirping (as they do). Teasing the cat.
